I know I'm in a bubble, because I work in an environment where people actively seek information from as many points of view as possible. It makes it hard for me to understand people who don't, or who just look for facts that support their own opinions. I truly wonder how we can have robust policy conversations when that's the norm- but I suspect it always has been, and societies keep stumbling forward.

Many years ago, I was on a field trip with my daughter's class to the Daily Messenger in Canandaigua. At the end, George Ewing, the publisher, came to speak to the group. And he was brutally honest. "The three most read newspaper sections were the police beat, the comics, and the obituaries. The rest is really just filler"
